Which BMWs have CIC navigation?
CIC (Car Information Computer) is the iDrive generation fitted roughly between 2008 and 2016: E90/E91/E92 3-series, E60/F10 5-series, E70 X5, E84 X1, E89 Z4 and MINI R55–R61 of the same era. CIC cars are the oldest still worth updating — their maps stopped at 2019–2021 releases depending on series, and a current-region update is one of the best upgrades for these vehicles.
Premium vs Motion vs Move
- • Premium — the full iDrive Professional system (large display, hard-drive navigation).
- • Motion / Move — the smaller Business and Radio navigation units.
Each series has its own map data and its own FSC type — a Premium code cannot activate a Motion map. Decode your VIN on the homepage to confirm which series your car runs before ordering.
Activating CIC maps
CIC uses the classic 20-character typed code. During the USB map update, the head unit asks for the code; you type it in via the iDrive controller. One CIC FSC activates every release of the same series for your region.

When the unit stops accepting codes
Repeated wrong codes (typical after generator experiments) can leave a CIC unit rejecting every code, including genuine ones. The fix is not another code — it is restoring the factory certificate set for your VIN with an FSC repair kit, after which a valid code is accepted again.
